I’m currently loving the new lo-fi echo-ey sounding vocals – it’s totally modernised Joe Meek! I wonder whether the increase in MySpace celebrity for bands who make music in their bedroom has spawned a new audio aesthetic – a sound that people are recreating in the studio by design rather than accident. I’m also sure that the romanticising of days of yore and crackly vinyl has a lot to do with it as well – it’s comforting, especially in these dark days of high speed mp3 downloads and economic yawnsville. The distortion is my soft blankey, filling the gaps, hugging my ears and inducing faux-stalgia! I heart distortion.
