I Am The Son Of God

I’m always having nerdy debates with the boy Creeps about vocals. They sit firmly on the lady side of the fence whereas I err more on the side of boys. It’s a beautiful thing really, as we were clearly made for each other as DJs.

So in the spirit of new boy stuff I thought I’d share with you some lovely music I’ve been listening to lately:

Cymbals Eat Guitars – Some Trees (MP3)

From ‘Why There Are Mountains’, the band’s totally excellent debut album. I’ve been listening to this record a LOT. It reminds of me Pavement but more exciting. It’s super scratchy, woozy, punchy wow.

Frightened Rabbit – Swim Until You Can’t See Land

Me and the boys had a bit of a wobble over whether we should book Frightened Rabbit for GHOST SCHOOL once. I think they weren’t right for our night ultimately so we did A GOOD in not having them but that doesn’t stop me being totally swoons about them still. New album is on the way next year (YES) and ‘Swim Until You Can’t See Land’ is the delicious first taster from it.

Right so Royal Bangs are totally awesome and I don’t understand why more people haven’t cottoned on to this yet. ‘Let It Beep’ is their second album due in November and here is one of my favourite tracks from it performed live!

They’re playing The Fly Bar in London on 23rd November which is mega tiny so see you there?

Colourmusic – Yes! (MP3)

Colourmusic are weird.

Colourmusic

They are the world’s first ever Yorkshire/Oklahoma based band and they’re a bit like a cult. Live shows have seen them asking the audience to chop off their hair and clothes throughout the set and paint them in emulsion, and they have also faked the death of one of their members complete with a real coffin and, erm, conducted an interview with god. Musically this track is a bit like The Beta Band meets The Big Pink and it’s taken from their ‘Yes!’ EP. Album on the way in 2010…

Finally a bit of electronic music, just to keep A-Creep happy! Baby Monster are a Eugene Oregon duo about to release their debut single ‘Ultra Violence and Beethoven’ on 50 Bones Records, which has put out stuff by The Virgins, Little Boots, We Have Band, Primary 1 and Creep favourites Mickey Gang.

You can hear it here (LINK)

It’s quite spooky and ethereal, just in time for Halloween (awoo!), like a gothy electronic Sigur Ros minus the pretensions.
